Jon Cheney is a high-performance individual. I have known him for a few years, but really got to know him recently. His dad took him and his sisters to Otter Bar to learn kayaking as kids and they repeated the trip annually. Jon was taught by people like Rush Sturgis and Tyler Bradt. It shows in his willingness to charge rapids and his proficiency on the water. Off the water, Jon is an entrepreneur in the most pure sense. He knows how to create a unique business, get it funded, build a team, and ultimately create an exit for it if he wants. Ocavu is one of those businesses, a tech business in the 3D and Immersive technology field. Recently he founded Velocity Access, and is the CEO, while now chairman of the board of Ocavu. When not working on making the world a better place through his businesses, he has a wife and 4 young kids that live on a small farm just outside of SLC. Jon is an amazing piano player and has an entire album of songs he wrote.
He is ranked very high up (double my score) on Chess.com and learned from a Grand Master. For somebody who has achieved a high-performing skill set in so many areas of his life, including 5 languages, he is a mild-mannered, warm, friendly, happy guy that cares about others and is fun to be around. I would like to think that his intelligence and desire to have the best equipment for his endeavours is why he chose the Apex Ringer and Rebound for his new kayaks.
Jon flew from SLC to Nashville and rented a car and came to the factory at Rock Island. Instead of shipping the kayaks, he came, we outfitted them, went to Columbus, GA for some big water surfing, and then he flew home with them. A three day paddling trip to get comfortable with his new boats and put them to the test on 12,000-17,000 cfs.
I am lucky to have Jon as a customer. He’ll help spread the word and show off his new boats to others and I will be putting his new tech company, Velocity Access, to the test at Apex once we get the new website done. https://www.velocityaccess.io This will be a disruptive technology for making the customer experience more enjoyable and easier.
Thanks, Jon for the business and supporting a new brand and Pre-ordering the kayaks sight unseen!
🙂
